How to get to Tortuguero
Rent a car
Drive From San Jose (3h) or Puerto Viejo/Cahutia (4h) to La Pavona! (Via Guapiles and Cariari).
In La Pavona is a big parking space located,where they watch your car.
You should arrive in La Pavona before 4pm, when the last boat leaves to Tortuguero.
By shuttle
From/to San Jose or La Fortuna:
We can organize a shuttle for you which will pick you up directly at your hotel.

If you come from Puerto Viejo or Cahuita:
We can order a private Taxi from Cahuita (45$) or Puerto Viejo (50$) to Moin.
Thats where all the boats to Tortuguero(3 - 4h)at 10:00am leave.

Ask for the boat from Cholo. The ticket price of 35$ you pay afterwards in Casa Pelican.
Public Transport
San Jose - Tortuguero
1. Take the direct bus from San Jose to Cariari at 6:30 or 9:00am.
The busses depart from the Caribbean bus terminal in Barrio Tournon.
2. Take the 9:00 or 11:30am bus to La Pavona.
3. Hop on a Boat from La Pavona to Tortuguero (around 1 hour)
They will await the arrival of the bus from Cariari around 11:00am or 1:00pm.
Important to know:
The last boat of the day that departs La Pavona for Tortuguero leaves between 4:00pm and 4:30pm. You can take a later direct bus from San Jose to Cariari at 10:30am or 1:00pm and make the connection with the 3:00pm bus to La Pavona (last bus as well). But keep in mind that there is no possibility to stay the night in La Pavona, the closest accommodation is in Cariari. We recommend to take the earlier connection, you never know how the traffic is.
From Puerto Viejoo Cahuita
1. Take the bus from Puerto Viejo(7:30am) or from Cauhita (8:00am)to Limón.
2. Take the Taxi (10$)from Limón bus station to Moinharbor.
3. Thats where all the boats to Tortuguero at 10:00am leave (3h).
